Earth Day is a day that inspires awareness and appreciation for the Earth's natural environment.
It is in 22 April. Earth day was a day founded by United States Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. While this first Earth Day was focused on the United States, an organization launched by Denis Hayes, who was the original national coordinator in 1970, took it international in 1990 and organized events in 141 nations.[1][2] Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network,[3] and is celebrated in more than 175 countries every year.[4] April 22 corresponds to spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Numerous communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 in a different nation every year, remains the principal United Nations environmental observance.[5]

GREENING RESTAURANTS SINCE 1990
The GRA is a national non-profit organization that provides a convenient and cost-effective way for restaurants, manufacturers, distributors, and consumers to become more environmentally responsible.
Does greening your restaurant sound hard, time consuming and costly? Well, rest assured, it doesn’t have to be any of those things! The GRA was founded with the mission of creating an ecologically sustainable restaurant industry, and from day one, our goal has been to make the process as simple and affective as possible. Why do we strive to simplify things? Because we realize that restaurateurs have enough on their plates without worrying what kind of paper towel to order, or where they’ll get next months supply of eco-friendly dish soap. That’s our job.
With the world’s largest database of environmental solutions for the restaurant industry, and almost twenty years of experience, the Green Restaurant Association is the expert in helping restaurants become more environmentally sustainable.

"Earth Song" is the third single from Michael Jackson's album HIStory: Past, Present and Future, Book I. It is a ballad that incorporates elements of blues, gospel and opera. Jackson had a long-standing history of releasing socially conscious material such as "We Are the World", "Man in the Mirror" and "Heal the World". However, "Earth Song" was the first that overtly dealt with the environment and animal welfare.
The song was written and composed by Jackson; the task of production was split between Jackson, David Foster and Bill Bottrell. Reviews were generally favorable, but some charged that the song sounded pompous, even if unintentional.
"Earth Song" was accompanied by a lavish music video shot on four geographical regions. It centered around the destruction and rebirth of Earth and went on to receive a Grammy nomination in 1997. The song was a top five hit in most European countries. In the UK, it remains Jackson's best-selling single. "Earth Song" was not released as a single in the United States. When Jackson performed the song at the 1996 BRIT Awards, Jarvis Cocker attempted to interrupt the show and stormed the stage, offended with the imagery presented. Jackson went on to receive recognition from various animal and environmental organizations.

The opaque green, 13" long by 8" wide, OXO-BIODEGRADABLE DOGIPOT Litter Pick Up Bag has been dispensed from the DOGIPOT® dispenser/disposal waste system since 1983 in Europe and in the U.S. since early 1994.
With such an influx of new people into our cities and towns, the local governments are faced with a problem of diminishing parks and 'green' spots.
Compound this problem with dog owners walking their pets and allowing dog accidents to occur in neighbors' yards and over sidewalks without getting picked up by the dog owner. The result - an unpleasant pollution, especially in downtown areas, city and state parks, campgrounds, mobile home parks, and residential subdivisions.
Until now, the only way the dog owner could use our litter bags was to find a DOGIPOT® bag dispenser in parks, recreation areas, upscale housing
communities, campgrounds, etc. Finally, the wait or the hunt for a quality
and compact litter bag is over.
OXO-BIODEGRADABLE DOGIPOT Litter Pick Up Bags are dispensed out of an eye-appealing, practical dispenser box with 200 bags per roll which also fits in both the DOGIPOT® JR. Dispenser and the DOGIPOT® Dispenser/Disposal Waste Container.
Always keep a roll of OXO-BIODEGRADABLE DOGIPOT Litter Pick Up Bags in your car, garage, back yard porch, camper and apartment. (http://www.dogipot.com/p_litter.htm)

BioBag Product = Compostable Product
BioBag and the Environment
Mater-Bi is produced by Novamont, an Italian research company dedicated to environmental alternatives to polyethylene-based plastics.
Mater-Bi is the first completely biodegradable and compostable bio-polymer ever invented. The processes are protected by more than 50 patents.
Mater-Bi™ really is a dream come true. It is a material that serves Sustainable Development, it combines environmental demands with those of Agriculture and Industry. The bioplastic developed by Novamont is the real response to the demand for convenience goods that have a small environmental impact. It comes from renewable resources of agricultural origin, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions, and the consumption of energy and non renewable resources, and it completes a virtuous circle: the raw materials of agricultural origin return to the earth through processes of biodegradation and composting , without releasing pollutants.
(but it releases methane)
…AND CERTIFIED…
Under extremely clear and strict regulations on environmental matters (EN 13432 ) Novamont and Mater-Bi™ are exemplary models, because of the certifications obtained, the analysis and control instruments used, and the guiding role in numerous national and international initiatives, whose aim was increasingly to clarify and define the most suitable policies for safeguarding the environment.
Mater-Bi™ comes from renewable raw materials of agricultural origin and from non-genetically modified starch. Novamont manufactures and sells various lines of biopolymers for a variety of manufacturing processes, all with the Mater-Bi™ trademark. The material is available in granular form.
All of the Mater-Bi™ grades:
-
are completely biodegradable in different environments: in composting, in the soil, in fresh and in salt water;
-
can be worked using the same processes as for traditional plastics and with similar output;
-
can be printed on, using normal inks and printing techniques, without the need for crown treatment;
-
can be colored in bulk, using biodegradable Master-batches;
-
are intrinsically anti-static;
-
can be sterilized using gamma rays.
Biodegradability is characteristic of natural substances and materials of being assimilated by micro-organisms, and thus introduced into the natural cycles. In effect, it is a concept that is familiar to everyone.
When natural organic materials go into the ground, they tend to decompose progressively, to disappear. This phenomenon is very important for the environment, which has to get rid of waste to make room for new life. Trees, plants and algae, meaning photosynthetic organisms, absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and, with the power of the sun, the inexhaustible source of energy, use it to synthesize sugars, and a whole range of other substances present in Nature.
The flow of substances and energy passes along the food chain from the plants to the herbivores, and from these, to carnivores. However, this mechanism would quickly become blocked if the opposite process did not exist, that is, if it was not possible to release carbon dioxide from organic material. So, in natural equilibrium, the process of biodegradation is as important as that of photosynthesis, of which it is both the outcome and the starting point. An important role is played in biodegradation by micro-organisms, which are present in every environment, and which are fed by organic waste. Thus, organic material is transformed again into carbon dioxide, thereby completing the natural cycle.

World Environment Day (WED) 2010 is aimed to be the biggest, most widely celebrated, global day for positive, environmental action.
Commemorated on 5 June since 1972, WED is one of the principal vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
Through WED, we are able to give a human face to environmental issues and enable people to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
WED is also a day for advocating partnerships among all stakeholders or perhaps, even more correctly, among all species living on this one planet and sharing a common future.
WED 2010 is aimed to be the biggest WED celebration ever and we count on you to make this happen! We call for action – organize a neighborhood clean-up, stop using plastic bags and get your community to do the same, plant a tree
or better yet organize a collective tree planting effort, walk to work, start a recycling drive . . . the possibilities are endless.
